'The Color Purple,' 'Cinderella' join Broadway in Chicago's 2018 season

Time-honored tuners "The Sound of Music" and "Cinderella" will be included along with previously announced Broadway tryouts of "Pretty Woman: The Musical" and "The Cher Show" and the national tour of "Waitress" as part of Broadway in Chicago's 2018 season.

The season opens March 13, 2018, with "Pretty Woman: The Musical." Based on the 1990 film, the show includes a score by Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance and book by screenwriter Garry Marshall. Samantha Barks, of the film "Les Miserables," stars.

Next up is the slice-of-life musical comedy "A Taste of Things to Come" (March 20-April 29, 2018), about 1950s housewives from Winnetka, Illinois, whose cookbook gets replaced with the Kinsey Report on female sexuality.

"On Your Feet!" - the musical inspired by the lives of Gloria and Emilio Estefan, which originated in Chicago two years ago - returns for a brief run (March 21-April 8, 2018). That's followed by "The Cher Show" (June 12-July 15, 2018), chronicling the six-decade career of the Grammy and Academy Award-winning singer and actress.

The national tour of "Waitress," the Sara Bareilles-Jessie Nelson musical adapted from the 2007 film, comes to Chicago July 3-22, 2018. The season concludes with a revival of the Tony Award-winning "The Color Purple." Based on Alice Walker's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel about a poor, African-American woman who triumphs over abuse, prejudice and despair, the musical runs July 17-29, 2018.

BIC's off-season specials include revivals of "The Sound of Music" (April 10-15, 2018), "Rodgers + Hammerstein's Cinderella" (April 27-May 6, 2018) and "Dirty Dancing - The Classic Story on Stage" (May 29-June 3, 2018).

Season subscriptions go on sale Oct. 18 at (312) 977-1717 or broadwayinchicago.com.
