Cuts coming to Social Security, Medicare

While we were fixated on the current immigration debacle, the House GOP introduced their new budget proposal. The Republican leadership has proposed cuts to Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security to pay for the whopping tax break they gave their wealthy donors. This means the elderly and most vulnerable among us will be paying for their $1.5 trillion deficit.

The Republican budget proposes to squeeze over $500 billion out of Medicare over the next decade. This is a program that is generally well run and liked. Social Security cuts would equal approximately $4 billion over a decade.

The party of Randy Hultgren and Peter Roskam also favor cuts to other health care programs targeting veterans, anti-poverty programs, education and other critical investments that are sure to inflict serious harm on American families. It ignores any sense of responsibility to us. It again seeks to repeal the Affordable Care Act. They are already responsible for decimating it to the degree that we will ALL be paying more for our health insurance.

Their cuts would make it harder for everyday Americans to feed their families, pay the rent and afford health care. All of this, so that they can repay their donors who helped get them elected. Shame.
