Yes, nation was founded on Christian values

Bruce Beiersdorf on May 23 was right about the first settlers of what became the United States of America coming here for freedom to practice their faith but whoever taught him about that neglected a significant detail. They came seeking to practice Protestant Christianity because the Church of Rome in the early post-Reformation years was not inclined to let them freely practice their faith or even read the Bible in their own language.

Protestants such as Knox, Huss, Tyndale and others were burned at the stake for translating the Bible into the language of the people. Nobody spoke Latin anymore but the fortress Church of Rome didn't want the faithful reading God's Word for themselves.

Contrary to what you have been led to believe, our nation has always had a Christian heritage; our Founding Fathers were Christians. Read the story of our second president if you doubt this. He along with George Washington and most all of the signers of the Declaration of Independence were Christians. They were not perfect men, none are, save Jesus Christ, but they developed our Constitution and the rule of law based on biblical truth.

Also, "separation of church and state" is not in the Constitution. Read the First Amendment; you won't see those words there. Don't take my word for it. Look up the truth so you will know what it is.

For some people, it will be an inconvenient truth, but truth nonetheless. With Memorial Day just past, as we honored all those men and women who gave their lives to ensure our liberty, we need to ask God to help our country return to the values on which this great nation was founded.
