Well-managed fire district deserves support

I am writing in support of the referendums that will be on this month's ballot for the South Elgin and Countryside Fire Protection District. The proposed referendums are the only referendums in the area that will bring additional service.

The entire South Elgin and Countryside Fire Protection District and its board of trustees have been so fiscally responsible that it has been 20 years since the last request of this kind from them. Just think of the growth in the village of South Elgin that has taken place and that we all enjoy each day. The fire district is not asking for the passing of the referendums for their gain, they are asking for this to provide the very best service possible to South Elgin residents and business owners. The passing of these referendums will give the means to replace a station that is obsolete and build and man a third station.

In my almost 50 years in the village of South Elgin, I have always been proud of all of our first responders. I have walked door to door with some of these firefighters, who are on their own time, speaking with residents, passing out door hangers and putting out signs. The South Elgin Fire District Fire Fighters and board of trustees are dedicated to all of us in South Elgin and want to give us the very best service as quickly as possible.

For 32 cents per day, we can make this happen. It is so very important that these referendums pass. Vote yes for your future.
