Elgin has lost a giant

Elgin lost another giant last week with the passing of everyone's friend, Jack Shales.

So many deservedly kind words have been warmly expressed, conveying what Jack meant to so many. Jack represented one of the last of a generation of civic-minded generous philanthropists in Elgin. He raised millions for organizations, community projects and people of Elgin in need, but he and Marlene always gave before he ever asked.

We give thanks for his life, for his presence in our community and the privilege of knowing him. We acknowledge and express appreciation for his contributions to the many who benefited by his life. Thank you, Jack.
