Pro-life march in city deserved coverage

On Sunday, Jan. 14, I joined with about 9,000 individuals to show our support for the right to life. We gathered at Federal Plaza in downtown Chicago with people of all backgrounds in unity to promote the love for life.

The diverse crowd included young and old; white, black, Hispanic, and Asian; different Christian denominations, and Jews. Many prominent officials were there to speak on this important cultural shift in the U.S. toward the respect for life, such as Cardinal Cupich, the archbishop of Chicago, Bishop Hying, the bishop of Gary, Indiana, Republican Congressman Peter Roskam, Democratic Congressman Dan Lipiniski, Illinois state Rep. Jeanne Ives and others.

This group of joyful witnesses to every individual's right to life then marched through the streets of Chicago. It was an amazing sight to see this diverse crowd joined in unity to pack the street from sidewalk to sidewalk and stretching down the streets as far as the eye could see. This is why I was shocked the next day when there was absolutely no mention of this very newsworthy event in the Daily Herald.

This is truly another sad indicator of how far journalism has fallen. Like a chapter out of George Orwell's "1984," our news media has become the "Ministry of Truth." They don't report events they don't want people to know about, and put biased spin on other stories. When such a significant event is ignored because it does not fit the ideology of those in the media, it becomes painfully obvious that honest, unbiased journalism is dead.
