Preserve the pollinators

The Kane County Board will be voting in June on the next step for its $3.88 million Settler Hill cross-country track.

Some county board members are touting the addition of the track as progress in the "sports corridor" that includes Settler Hill Golf Course, Fox Valley Ice Arena, Striker's Fox Valley and Northwestern Medicine Field. As a taxpayer, I am certain I am paying one way or another to keep these facilities available to the residents of Kane County.

If I am going to take on another losing venture, I would rather see Settler Hill designated as a Forest Preserve for pollinators. Settler Hill is a perfect location for birds, honeybees, butterflies and all prairie pollinators to survive. Without the assistance of pollinators, most plants cannot produce fruits and seed.

I for one would rather see a "Pollinators Paradise" for Settler Hill than a cross-country running track.
