Restore sanity to McHenry Co. Board

On Oct. 4, the McHenry County Board Human Resources Committee met to vote on whether countrywide elected officials should continue to accrue pension benefits at the end of their current terms.

This straightforward, common sense resolution was created by Chairman Jack Franks along with county board members John Jung and John Reinert. The change would prohibit elected officials whose terms are four years, from collecting pensions as they were 20-year full-time employees.

Incredibly, board members Michael Rein, Donna Kurtz and Craig Wilcox refused to support this resolution. All three are up for election the March Republican Primary. These board members chose to protect other insiders instead of the taxpayers. The only people against this resolution are the elected officials who benefit from this indefensible perk and their good old boy friends who benefit from their insider status.

Rein, Kurtz and Wilcox don't understand that McHenry County taxpayers have the highest property taxes in the country and can no longer afford business as usual. They don't understand that our residents are fleeing the county precisely because of these insider deals that raise all of our property taxes.

Rein, Kurtz and Wilcox are key players in the good old boy network that benefits insiders at the expense of the taxpayers. They are tone deaf to the corruption tax that they have imposed on our residents by continuing business as usual.

Fortunately, the voters will have their chance in the March Republican Primary to vote these three out of office and restore some sanity to the county board.
