Mum on electors

I read your editorial regarding the electoral college with interest, thinking it would answer some questions. I have long wondered who are the members of the electoral college, and how are they put into that position? I've never seen an election for electors. I've never seen an elector on the news talking about their experience. Why do they keep such a low profile? I would think they should be very public about their role in the election.
