Williams over Gerson - no contest

I get the Daily Herald delivered daily to my house. I enjoy reading it in the morning while having a cup of coffee. Imagine the entertainment value I got when I read Wednesday, Aug. 23, the column on the opinion page by Michael Gerson.

His article titled "America First is a gathering moral and strategic disaster." Mr. Gerson develops his opinion by quoting a totally obscure politician and human rights activist in Zimbabwe who gives his opinion on the reaction of the regime in Harare regarding Trump. This is the most absurd building of an argument I have ever seen. The article by Mr. Gerson goes downhill from there. It's like building a foundation of match sticks and then putting a house of top of this totally collapsible foundation.

Right next to the article by Mr. Gerson was an article written by professor Walter E. Williams about the Charlottesville incident. It is full of actual quotes by the parties involved and lists the sources. Mr. Williams gives his opinion based on solid foundation and to me this kind of development of opinion is worth considering.

Today's opinion pieces could be used as an example of how Mr. Gerson forms an opinion based on what ifs, maybes and total lack of facts compared to Mr. Williams opinion based on facts and research backed by actual sources.
