Governor should block bill on sanctuary cities

The Illinois Trust Act - SB31 (making Illinois a sanctuary state) sponsored by John Cullerton has passed in the House and Senate, only awaiting Gov. Rauner's signature by the end of this month. Gov. Rauner has indicated to immigration rights groups that he will not veto SB31.

This places all Illinoisans at great risk, largely due to the ineffectiveness of sanctuary polices in Chicago and other major cities that continue to bleed with crime. Gangs, bad actors from foreign countries and violence prevail as witnessed in the news each day. A high number of crimes are never solved due to a lack of cooperation with law enforcement.

Illinois resides in an abyss of debt; a sanctuary policy will not improve the economic situation. National security is intended for all citizens, and SB31 will place even more stringent limits on cooperation between local law enforcement and federal authorities.

Certainly, for those who sincerely choose to come into the light and become citizens, classes are available in local communities and immigration services are here to aid them with the proper process.

Shall we acquiesce to the policies that continue to minimize the effectiveness of our law enforcement, or promote cooperation to ensure we maintain some semblance of law and order? Contact the governor's office if you treasure security in your state to veto SB31.
