No one enforcing speed limit on I-90

I must tell you that I nearly choked on my morning coffee when I read the Daily Herald headline that said, "Tollway Wants Higher Speeds on I-90."

Anyone who drives I-90 regularly knows there are no speed limits on that road. Speed limits are routinely ignored. The speed limits are more like suggestions.

There's no enforcement of the speed limit out there. My wife and I regularly travel I-90 between Elgin and places in Wisconsin. We play a game called, "Find a Trooper." The only time we see them is when two or more cars have become entangled in a smoldering wreck caused either by speeding or texting while driving.

The Tollway people did a great job reconstructing I-90 into one of the best stretches of highway in the nation, but apparently no thought was given to enforcing the speed limit. While it does seem strange that the speed limit changes for no good reason between here and there, it really doesn't matter what speed limit is posted. Nobody obeys it anyway! Try driving the speed limit on any part of I-90 some day and prepare yourself for some incredible abuse. You will be subjected to a barrage of horn honking and obscene gestures.

I believe the Tollway Authority could easily reduce the tolls they charge if they seriously enforced the speed limit. The money raised from all those speeding tickets could be used to maintain the Tollway system and save you some money at the toll booth.
