Central DuPage stroke unit is a lifesaver

The Central DuPage Hospital Mobile Stroke Unit is an incredible service offered by the Winfield hospital.

The citizens residing within the hospital's service area are very fortunate should the need ever arise. It is my understanding that the unit is the only one operational in the state of Illinois.

The need for me came about back in April. I suffered a stroke at home on an early Monday morning. Wheaton paramedics arrived within three minutes and shortly requested the service of the CDH Mobile Stroke Unit. The unit arrived within ten minutes and began their stroke protocol. Within minutes, I was receiving a brain scan in the back of their unit with results being shared with a neurologist located back in the hospital. Although the Stroke Team has the ability to administer the blood clotting medicine immediately, my neurologist selected to have me transported first.

After months of physical, occupational and speech therapy, I am well on my way to successful recovery. The immediate response of the CDH Mobile Stroke Unit and their personnel contributed greatly to minimizing the effects of my stroke.

I would encourage residents and businesses, located within the CDH service area, to visit the CDH website and financially support this worth while service. It is important for the public to demonstrate their support for this beneficial service.
