Residents will suffer if D59 complex built

Editor's note: This letter was received before the village board meeting on Monday.

It has been brought to our attention that a zoning change is imminent for the property owned by District 59 on Leicester Road. At the zoning meeting, it was apparent that the decision was already made, as there was no acknowledgment of the concerns of area residents, nor was there any attempt to address the concerns.

District 59 never notified residents nor asked for any input. It appears neither the school district or village is interested in dialogue with residents - they are simply window dressing to create the appearance of input.

This is a residential area. It was zoned as such, and changing the designation would be detrimental to quality of life as well as property values. The increased traffic would endanger bike riders and the many small children who live here.

Currently we have soccer teams playing, the old-fashioned baseball games, kids flying kites, and plenty of green grass. The proposal is about as cliché as it gets. You wish to pave paradise to put up a parking lot.

How would you feel if this was constructed at the end of your block? Would you enjoy the eyesore, endless traffic, trucks delivering goods at all hours, lights blaring, and your quiet enjoyment of your residence disrupted?

With the expansive industrial park at their disposal, and well as the large amount of cash from the sale of their property on Arlington Heights Road, the school district could easily invest in property already zoned for production in the industrial park.

Our homes are the investment we have made over a lifetime. We chose Elk Grove, and this location for a reason. It is your obligation, as our elected officials, to protect our investment and our lifestyle.
