Illinois should ban tinted car windows

With all the violence going on in this country, I humbly beg our Illinois senators and congressmen to change the Illinois Car Window Tint Law.

When you are driving and pull up to a four-way stop-sign intersection and the other driver has his front windows tinted, you cannot see the driver's face to ascertain that he sees you. The same is true when a tinted window car is pulling out of a driveway, you cannot tell if the driver sees you coming. I have witnessed many near accidents because the drivers cannot see each other or make eye contact.

But worst yet, when a policeman has pulled over a car with tinted windows, he has no idea if the driver or passengers are holding a gun ready to shoot him. With the wave of disrespect for authorities, especially police officers, I cannot imagine what goes through a police officer's mind when he walks up to a car and cannot see the occupants and where their hands are.

Illinois Tint Law allows tinting that permits 35 percent of the light to come into the car. That is a farce. Even in the bright sunshine, you cannot see the occupants of a tinted car because very few violators adhere to the 35 percent rule.

Please join me in contracting our elected officials in passing a law revoking the 1998 Illinois Car Tinting Law or at least banning completely the tinting of the front windshield and side windows to help prevent accidents and more important, to save police officers" lives.
