Abortion funding bill should be vetoed

In the interest of full disclosure, Terry Cosgrove (letter supporting HB 40 appeared May 9) is the president of the Personal PAC, the Planned Parenthood political lobbying organization. He is paid to convince legislators and create public support for any legislation that is favorable to Planned Parenthood.

Securing funding for abortion through Medicaid as provided by HB 40 is a great triumph for him and his organization but is a detriment to Illinois. HB 40 denies the natural truth that all human life begins at conception and removes any mention of this fact from Illinois law.

Again, this is advantageous to Mr. Cosgrove and Planned Parenthood as it removes the human face from the act of killing unborn human children.

In spite of Mr. Cosgrove's passionate plea to Gov. Rauner to sign HB 40, our governor should stand firm in his commitment to veto this terrible law. While Mr. Cosgrove states that we pay for many things we don't like in a democracy, he neglects to remember that our republic was founded after a bloody revolution driven by laws to pay for things which our Founding Fathers thought unacceptable.

Many people in Illinois find the act of abortion - the killing of unborn human life - unacceptable. Equally unacceptable is a law that would force people to be implicated in the killing of unborn human life with their tax payments.

We all have a purpose in life. It's just not always clear at the very beginning what that purpose is. Snuffing out human potential is never good public policy. Veto HB 40, Gov. Rauner.
