Wall was just a 'red meat' issue for Trump
Too many people are focused on the cost of a wall along the Mexican border and where the funds to build and staff it will come from.
We should be focusing on how effective such a wall would be and what it would mean for landowners along the border, for those who frequently if not daily cross the border legally, for its difficult placement in relation to the Rio Grande, for all the wildlife who live and roam in that area, and for how it would interfere with commerce.
Beyond these significant considerations, however, is the fact that the wall would not solve the problem of illegal immigration. Basically, it was a red meat issue during President Trump's campaign designed to inflame his base many of whom blame immigrants for the very real problems in their lives.
