Crab-boil restaurant plans to open in Batavia

Batavians could soon nosh on crab boils and lobster rolls, as a seafood restaurant plans to open on Randall Road.

Crabby Boil has applied for a building permit, and hopes to open in mid-June, according to restaurant co-owner Lyndon Ferrer of Aurora.

It will move in to a building at 220 N. Randall Road that used to house Salt Creek BBQ and before that, Fazoli's. Salt Creek closed in 2011.

"We think there is a market," Ferrer said, noting he and his wife, May, normally drive to Chicago to get their crab-boil fix.

And, he has dreamed of owning a restaurant.

But it was his kids who pushed him in to it. "I was telling them 'You should do something that always makes you happy,' and they called me out," Ferrer said.

Besides crab, there will be shrimp, lobster and mussels available, and a variety of sauces. Bibs will be offered for diners to enjoy cracking crab legs without fear of drips.

There will also be sandwiches, including soft-shell crab and the aforementioned lobster rolls. He plans to get a liquor license.

The restaurant will have table service.

"We love Batavia. There's a good feel in the area and the city," Ferrer said.
