New buildings taking shape in downtown Lisle
Marq on Main - a new apartment and retail complex in downtown Lisle - will be completed this year, according to the developer.
Naperville-based Marquette Companies is constructing two 5-story buildings that will have commercial space on the first floor and apartments above.
Company officials say the building that will front on Burlington Avenue, near the train station, is scheduled to open in June. The second building, at the corner of Burlington and Main Street, is expected to be finished in the fall.
Meanwhile, a temporary leasing office is scheduled to open next month downtown.
Anticipation for the development is growing now that the buildings are taking shape, said Scott Eberly, senior director of project management and design with Marquette Companies.
"We've seen strong momentum over the past few months as the project started to go vertical," Eberly said Monday.
When completed, the buildings will have a total of 14,500 square feet on their ground floors for retail, restaurant and cafe uses. In addition, the buildings will have a total of 201 one- and two-bendoom luxury rental apartments on the upper levels.
The first restaurant coming to the development - Red Arrow Tap Room - will occupy 4,500 square feet in the building at Main and Burlington. It also will have an outdoor patio.
No other commercial tenants have been announced.
Marquette officials say the development will have indoor parking for residents and ground floor retail tenants. Thirty-five new on-street parking spaces also will be available.
Marq on Main represents a $57 million investment in downtown Lisle, according to Marquette.
Downtown businesses are expected to benefit from the influx of residents the apartments will bring. In addition, new businesses at the development should help increase foot traffic in the area, Eberly said.
"The corner of Burlington and Main is a prominent intersection in the downtown," Eberly said. "This project could become a cornerstone of the downtown."
He said Marq on Main will generate additional property and sales tax revenue for the village, which will benefit the community as a whole.
Lisle has been waiting for something new at the corner of Main and Burlington since 2004, when the old village hall was demolished. The village struck a deal with a builder but canceled it in 2011 after the company left the site untouched for two years.
In 2015, Lisle trustees approved a redevelopment agreement that paved the way for Marquette to buy the 2.3-acre property from the village for $1 million.
