Algonquin to consider lung and sleep clinic

A lung and sleep clinic is expected to move its medical office to a new site in Algonquin if trustees approve development plans next week.

Representatives from Northwest Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine have proposed constructing a 6,740-square-foot building at 1340 Ryan Parkway, just north of Route 62, according to village documents. The medical office, run by Dr. Dennis Kellar, conducts sleep studies and offers services for sleep disorders, allergies, lung conditions and other breathing problems.

Though on a commercial street, the building is expected to have a brick, residential-style facade to blend in with the houses behind it, Community Development Director Russ Farnum said. A veterinary clinic and other medical offices are also located nearby.

"It fits in with the neighborhood where it's located," he said. "It's not a great traffic generator, but it's a service that's necessary and required in this area."

Northwest Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine will be relocating to the east side of Algonquin from an existing location in South Barrington, according to the proposal. The company also has an office in Crystal Lake.

Algonquin officials have been trying to encourage development and generate more traffic along the East Algonquin Road corridor, Farnum said. The sleep clinic could bring between 20 and 40 patients to the area per day.

"It's good to see some reinvestment back in that part of the community," Farnum said.

About 14 full-time employees are expected to work at the new office, which will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, as well as 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. one Saturday per month. Sleep labs could also be conducted overnight from 8:30 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday to Friday.

The village board will vote on building plans at its Tuesday meeting.
