Veteran plans Schaumburg's first tattoo shop

Jeff Jucha of Addison, who became a tattoo artist after his service in the U.S. Marine Corps, led the charge to allow tattoo businesses in Schaumburg this week.

He will discuss possible locations for his own shop with the village staff Tuesday. Jucha hopes to open his fourth location there, in the heart of the Northwest suburbs.

Each of his three existing businesses has its own name - 4 Aces Tattoo at 9729 Grand Ave. in Franklin Park, 4 Anchors Tattoo at 2314 Green Bay Road in North Chicago near Great Lakes Naval Base, and Pink Rhino Tattoo at 3519 N. Halsted in Chicago.

Earlier this year, Jucha brought to village officials' attention that tattooing - a constitutionally protected activity - was not on their list of permitted business types.

That changed this week when trustees voted unanimously to allow tattoo businesses with special-use permits they would grant.

Possible locations include all manufacturing zones and most retail areas of the village, with the exception of the three major shopping centers of Woodfield Mall, Streets of Woodfield and Woodfield Village Green.
