Rights don't disappear at the border
In this era of trumped-up security, U.S. citizens are being asked to turn over their phones and computers when re-entering the country at the border. This is an infringement of our constitutional right to be free of searches without a warrant.
The Protecting Data at the Border Act was just introduced to both the House and Senate. It would require the government to obtain a warrant to search the data of U.S. citizens entering the country.
Our constitutional rights do not disappear at the border. I would encourage all citizens to contact their representatives to support this measure.
