An 8-year-old boy reported being approached by a man Wednesday afternoon, and Elgin police are asking the public for any information about the case.

Police responded at about 4:35 p.m. to the 3100 block of Holden Street and found that the boy was walking in that area when a black vehicle stopped near him.

A man, described as tall, thin and white, exited the vehicle and had a brief conversation with the boy. The conversation alarmed the boy, who ran home and told his parents, who called police.

Elgin's major investigations division is investigating. People can provide anonymous tips or information via the crime line at (847) 695-4195 or texting 847411 and include ELGINPD in the beginning of the text, along with the message and/or tip information.
