Hampshire village president Magnussen elected to fourth term

Hampshire Village President Jeff Magnussen will serve another four years in office after being re-elected Tuesday over challenger Katherine Basham, who ran as a write-in candidate.

Unofficial tallies with all four precincts reporting show Magnussen received 655 votes to Basham's 51 votes.

Magnussen, who said his fourth term would likely be his last, wants to focus on expanding the village's retail and commercial base along major corridors, such as Interstate 90, Route 20 and Route 72.

"We've worked diligently for the last few years, and we've had some success," he said. "I think we're really poised for good things to happen."

Magnussen also wants to start earmarking video gambling funds for beautification projects throughout the village. Filling vacant storefronts and attracting more unique, destination businesses to the downtown district are also among his top priorities, he said.

Basham, who went to Hampshire High School, said she wanted to revitalize the downtown and focus on bringing more residents and businesses into the village.
