Two men charged in Elgin home burglary

Elgin police arrested two men Monday accused of stealing a PlayStation, cellphones and jewelry from a home in 200 block of N. Weston Avenue.

Cristian Zuniga, of the 1000 block of Yew Court, and Ricardo Ordonez, of the 1000 block of Prospect Boulevard, have each been charged with a felony count of burglary, police said.

A caller reported suspicious activity in front of the home, and officers responded about 12:10 p.m., arresting one man later identified as Zuniga.

Another man, later identified as Ordonez, ran from the scene and was apprehended about one block away, Cmdr. Al Young said.

Officers reported finding stolen property in the suspects' possession and along the path Ordonez used to run from police.

"This is a great example of someone who saw something that didn't seem right and they called us," Police Chief Jeff Swoboda said in a Facebook post. "We all can play a part in continuing to reduce crime in Elgin."
