Two challengers, one incumbent win Lisle trustee seats

One incumbent and two newcomers were victorious in a crowded Lisle trustee race that pitted a political slate against the village's current leadership.

According to unofficial results, with all 31 precincts reporting, incumbent Anthony Carballo was the top vote-getter with 1,820 votes. Marie Hasse followed with 1,781 votes, and Kelly Dixit received 1,728 votes.

Albert Lazaro, incumbent Christy McGovern, incumbent Brad Hettich and Kristy Grau received 1,597, 1,539, 1,511, and 1,457 votes, respectively.

The seven candidates competed for three 4-year trustee terms on the village board.

A political slate emerged during the race. Hasse, Dixit and Lazaro ran together as members of the Prosperity For Lisle slate.

During the campaign, the Prosperity For Lisle candidates questioned village spending and transparency and called for a property tax freeze. Meanwhile, Carballo, McGovern and Hettich said they've been careful stewards of village tax money. They also questioned their opponents' own commitment to transparency.

Grau ran as an independent in the race.

The candidates sharply disagreed about whether Lisle is doing enough to spur development in downtown and along the Ogden Avenue corridor.

Hasse said one of her goals is for the village to attract more shops and restaurants. She said Lisle needs to become more business-friendly.

Carballo, an attorney who served on the park district board before joining the village board in 2013, said he believes the town is business-friendly.

Dixit, meanwhile, argued that Lisle lacks strong sales tax revenue. She said the village should create new incentive programs to encourage businesses to locate and expand in Lisle.
