Deputies revive overdose victim after crash near Gurnee

Lake County Sheriff's deputies used the anti-opiate drug naloxone to revive a downstate man found suffering from a drug overdose Saturday after a two-vehicle crash near Gurnee.

According to sheriff's police, deputies responding to the crash at Washington Street and White Oak Lane at about 2 p.m. Saturday arrived to find one of the drivers involved unresponsive.

After determining that the 23-year-old Sheldon, Illinois man was experiencing an opioid overdose, deputies administered two doses of naloxone, and the man regained consciousness. He was taken to a hospital, where he's expected to recover.

There were no injuries from the crash, which remains under investigation. Charges are possible, sheriff's police said.

This is the 11th time this year Lake County Sheriff's deputies have revived a person suffering from an opioid overdose, according to the sheriff's office.
