Baby delivered by Lake Zurich firefighter-paramedics

Lake Zurich firefighter-paramedics handled a special delivery in a couple's house early Thursday morning.

Fire Chief John Malcolm said the first responders were summoned at 12:40 a.m. to deliver a baby at the house. It turned out the crew brought a girl into the world.

Malcolm said two ambulances, each with crews of three, and a shift commander were sent to the house to make sure the baby delivery went smoothly. He said one crew handled the delivery and took care of the girl, while the other took the mother in an ambulance to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Lake Barrington.

"We seem to have a delivery occur once every couple years," Malcolm said. "A few years ago, we delivered a baby at Station 2 on Route 22."

Malcolm said the woman's husband was present for the delivery.
