Softball: St. Charles East downs Burlington Central

Rylee Stout and Allie Balaskovits each had 3 hits and Delaney Devor threw a 4-hitter Monday as the St. Charles East softball team defeated Burlington Central 9-3 in nonconference action.

Stout drove in 2 runs and Balaskovits doubled for the Saints (3-1), while Hannah Cozzi added 2 hits and Paige Ligocki had a double and an RBI. Jordan Hieber and Megan Daly also had RBI.

Devor struck out 2 and walked 3 while allowing only 1 earned run.

Gretchen Schrubbe and Lindsey Jamrozek each had doubles for the Rockets (1-3). Julia Barnes suffered the loss in the circle.

Kaneland 18, Ripley (W. Va.) 4: Kaneland won its first game of the season in the opener of its spring trip to Myrtle Beach, S.C. Hailey Roach had 4 hits including 3 doubles and 2 RBI for the Knights and Lexi Abruzzo added 4 hits and 4 RBI. Also contributing to the offense for the Knights (1-3) were Morgan Weber (3 hits, HR, 3 RBI), Donatela Sommesi (2 hits, RBI), Hannah Theobald (RBI), Maddie Wheatley (RBI), Lauren Callahan (2B, 3 RBI) and Cassidy Motyka (2 hits, RBI). Emilee Erickson was the winning pitcher, going 2 ⅓ innings and allowing 3 hits and no earned runs with 2 strikeouts and a walk.

Dundee-Crown 4, David Crockett (Tenn.) 2: Sydney Ruggles scattered 7 hits and struck out 11 as the Chargers picked up a win on their spring trip to Tennessee. Deanna Origer had 2 hits while Claire Weeks and Megan Thompson drive in runs for D-C.

Stevenson 1, Dundee-Crown 0: Deanna Origer had a double for D-C (2-2). Kayla Sjodin took the loss in the circle.

Yorkville 12, Hampshire 9: Yorkville scored 7 runs in the first inning and went on to beat the Whip-Purs in a nonconference game. Melissa Esparza had a home run for Hampshire, Delaney Rummell (2 RBI), Sarah Bowen 4 hits with a double and an RBI and Megan Haefling 2 hits with a double and an RBI. Erin Doyle added an RBI and Jasmine Lopez 2 RBI.

Hoffman Estates 15, Larkin 3: Alexa Urbanik and Hannah Gross (2B, RBI) each had 2 hits for Larkin in this loss at the Rosemont Dome.
