25 years in prison for Campton Hills man who raped girl

A Campton Hills man charged with raping a girl younger than 13 over a three-year span has pleaded guilty and been sentenced to 25 years in prison.

Donald R. Lumbert, 40, of the 4N700 block of Brookside Drive, pleaded guilty Wednesday to one count of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child younger than 13, a felony with a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison, according to Kane County court records.

Judge John Barsanti accepted the guilty plea, which also requires Lumbert to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life and have no contact with the victim, who he knew. Lumbert also must pay $1,560 in court fines and fees.

Lumbert was arrested in late October on charges of five counts of predatory criminal sexual assault and four counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, all felonies. He was accused of assaulting the girl from July 2013 through his arrest on Oct. 29, 2016.

A Kane County grand jury later indicted him on five counts of predatory criminal sexual assault, five counts of criminal sexual assault, and four counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

In exchange for the guilty plea, prosecutors dismissed all the other, less severe charges against Lumbert, records show.

He must serve 85 percent of his sentence, which is about 21 years.
