Waukegan police investigating human remains found in wooded area

Waukegan police are investigating human skeletal remains found in a wooded area Wednesday afternoon, authorities say.

Police received a phone call about 4:30 p.m. from a passer-by who believed he came across skeletal remains at Tenth Street and South Lewis Avenue, Cmdr. Joe Florip said.

An investigation is still underway, however, officers were able to confirm the remains were human. Florip declined to comment on what specifically police found in the wooded area. Although it is unclear where the remains came from, police are exploring all possibilities, he said.
