'Cafeteria Catholics' back abortion bill

In response to the letter to the editor on March 18 by Kathy Ryg and Tara McGovern, the latter who is a member of Chicago Young Catholic Professionals, true Catholics do not support abortion. The letter states, "Forcing women to give birth against their will [...] runs counter to the concept of civil liberties." The liberties of unborn babies are taken away during an abortion.

True Catholics are not "cafeteria Catholics," people who pick and choose what precepts of the Catholic Church to which to adhere. I have a bumper sticker on my car which reads, "You can't be Both Catholic and Pro-Choice." The Catholic Church does not in any way support abortion, which it considers the murder of unborn babies.

The Catholic Church was founded by the Gospel of Jesus Christ, which commands "Thou shalt not kill." Abortion kills children. Therefore, if you call yourself a Catholic, then you should follow all of the true teachings of the Catholic Church.

HB40 is a bill currently in the Illinois House that would require taxpayer funding of abortions throughout the full nine months of pregnancy.

To all Catholics and Illinoisans, please contact your State Representative to vote No on HB40 to protect the liberties of all unborn babies.
