Kiwanis Club of Des Plaines wins chamber Food Fight

The Des Plaines Chamber of Commerce & Industry's board of directors recently challenged local community organizations and chamber member businesses to its 15th annual "Food Fight."

The purpose of the Food Fight is to collect much needed food supplies for the Self-Help Closet and Food Pantry of Des Plaines. This year, 12 organizations collected a total of 5,725 pounds of food, which was a fantastic effort from all the participants on behalf of the community.

The Kiwanis Club of Des Plaines won the challenge with 2,222 pounds of collected food. The additional groups participating in the 2017 Food Fight included: Best Financial Group (75 pounds); Bethesda Worship Center (138 pounds); Clinical Associates Medical Services (168 pounds); Des Plaines Camera Club (712 pounds); Des Plaines Chamber of Commerce & Industry (673 pounds); Des Plaines Garden Club (164 pounds); Des Plaines Library Board and Friends of the Library (258 pounds); Des Plaines Lions Club (165 pounds); Home Care Angels (163 pounds); Mill Run Condominiums (491 pounds); Rotary Club of Des Plaines (496 pounds).

Officials from the Des Plaines Chamber of Commerce & Industry and the Self-Help Closet and Food Pantry appreciate the support this year and look forward to an even greater Food Fight next year. The Food Pantry serves approximately 800 Des Plaines families on a monthly basis.
