Girls water polo: Barrington wins matchup of MSL West leaders
Host Barrington is alone at top the Mid-Suburban West after topping visiting Conant 7-4 on Monday in girls water polo.
The Fillies (5-0 overall, 3-0 MSL West) jumped in front with 4 first-quarter goals and had the lead the rest of the way. Andrea Potgieter led the scoring effort with 2 goals, and Heidi Palan, Nicole Runtz, Courtney Blum, Alyssa Schmidts and Emily Schulze also had goals.
Olivia Olszewski scored twice for Conant (4-2, 2-1), and Aly Wooley and A. Rodriguez had 1 apiece.
Conant goalie Cam Rosas stopped 9 shots, and Barrington's Alyssa Hawe made 5 saves.
Hersey 14, Rolling Meadows 6: Madison Burkhalter (6 goals) and Katie Lindgren (4) brought the firepower as the visiting Huskies (6-2, 2-1) won in MSL East play.
Betsy Zanocco scored 3 goals and Maggie Goodwin 2 for the Mustangs (3-6, 1-2).
Prospect 14, Wheeling 2: Colleen Doyle (4 goals) and Megan Pfeiffer (3) led Prospect's goal production as the East leaders stayed atop the division.
The Knights got 4 steals from 2-meter defender Olivia Thomas, and goalie Mary Clare McAleer stopped 8 shots.
Fremd 14, Palatine 5: Emily Kini scored 8 goals and teammate Lauren Streitmatter had 3 along with 4 steals to help the visiting Vikings prevail in MSL West play.
Paulina Pappas also scored twice for Fremd (3-5, 2-1), MJ Poss had 1 goal and goalie Caitlyn Mazur stopped 9 shots.
Junior Natalia Koval had 2 goals to pace Palatine (2-9, 1-2).
Buffalo Grove 8, Elk Grove 4: The visiting Bison improved to 3-4 overall and 2-1 in the MSL East.
Top efforts for the Grens (1-2, 2-5) came from Alyssa Bonilla (2 assists, 3 steals), Kate Duffy (2 steals) and Hannah Sallenback (2 goals, 1 steal).
Schaumburg 18, Hoffman 1: Brianna Vasquez (4 goals) and Hannah Trujillo and Emma Rutherford (3 goals apiece) led the scoring effort as the Saxons (5-3, 1-2) picked up their first MSL West win.
