Park Ridge man killed in crash near Wauconda

A Park Ridge man was killed Saturday after his car struck a utility pole near Wauconda, authorities said.

According to the Lake County sheriff's office, 60-year-old James T. Horan was traveling east on Route 176, just east of Ivanhoe Road in Fremont Township, about 10:10 p.m. Saturday when his 2005 Acura TL left the roadway and struck the pole.

Deputies said Horan, the only occupant of the vehicle, sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash caused extensive damage to both the vehicle and the utility pole. As a result of damage to the pole, there was a power outage in the area.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County sheriff's office Technical Crash Investigation Unit and Lake County coroner's office.
