Buffalo Grove named 2016 Tree City USA

Buffalo Grove recently earned recognition as a 2016 Tree City USA from the Arbor Day Foundation.

The acknowledgment is a direct result of the village's consistent policies that make the planting and care of trees a priority, officials said.

The Tree City USA program has four requirements: that the recipient has either a tree board or department; a tree-care ordinance; an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita; and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation on a yearly basis.

"From an aesthetic and environmental standpoint, trees play a vital role in the everyday lives of Buffalo Grove residents and businesses," Director of Public Works Mike Reynolds said in a news release. "To that end, the village has made urban forestry management a priority for the past 29 years."

The village will receive a Tree City USA flag by the Arbor Day Foundation, and will recognize the Tree City USA designation during its Arbor Day observance on Friday, April 28. For more information, visit www.arborday.org/TreeCityUSA.
