Questions & Answers

With ongoing state funding challenges, suggest ways the district can remain in the black without spending down its surplus, raising taxes or taking on additional debt. If cuts were needed, where would you look to tighten?

I will not raise taxes. That is not just campaign rhetoric, that is fact. Outsourcing student transportation will save millions of dollars. Rolling back full-day kindergarten would also save some cost. Negotiating sustainable contracts and creating employee empowerment zones would also yield financial benefits.

Recent controversy over transgender access has prompted discussion about equal rights/protections for all students, as well as whether school board members should inject their personal religious/political views on the matter. To what extent should the board have a role in formulating such policy?

The school board dictates policy, to include transgender access to facilities.

Would you support U-46 having a charter school within its boundaries? Why or why not?

Yes. School choice is always a good thing. It cedes power that has been taken by school boards and teacher unions back to the parents and students of our district.

What are some innovative programs the district could undertake, such as special academies or career path programs, to set itself apart?

Partnering with Elgin Community College would provide multitudinous opportunities to district students while not raising taxes.

What role can and should school choice play in your district? If Congress or the state approves a voucher system or other means giving students broader choices among public and private schools, how will that affect your district? What is the appropriate response for the board of education of a public school system?

Huge role. I wholeheartedly support Betsy DeVos and her plans to expand the school voucher program.

What other issues, if any, are important to you as a candidate for this office?

No more taxes. That is huge. I believe that our property owners bear a heavy burden and that it is our responsibility to come up with creative ways to save their money.

Please name one current leader who most inspires you.

My pastor. Dr. Keith Gomez

What is the biggest lesson you learned at home growing up?

Everything I do reflects on my parents. I want to make them proud.

If life gave you one do-over, what would you spend it on?

Building relationships with those I love the most.

What was your favorite subject in school and how did it help you in later life?

Geography. I don't get lost out driving around.

If you could give your children only one piece of advice, what would it be?

Love the Lord and trust Him as your personal Savior and with your soul.
