Mettawa Trustee.Questions Answers What makes you the best candidate for the job?I have been active in Mettawa village affairs serving on the Safety and Security Commission and the Zoning, Planning and Appeals Commission. I chaired the Mettawa Open Spaces Planning Ad Hoc Panel. I have attended the vast majority of the village board and committee meetings. I am serving as a Village trustee. My priorities are to maintain the Village's sound financial condition. preserve our community's unique rural, horse-friendly life stlye, and protect Mettawa's open lands from commercial development.What is your opinion of your community's present level of local sales and property taxes? Is the tax just right, too low or too high? Explain.We do not have a sales tax and our local tax is just about right. Our real estate taxes have not been raised for 18 years!Rate the efficiency of your town's police and fire coverage. Are the departments well prepared for the next decade? What, if anything, should be changed? Do you have specific public safety concerns?We contract with the Lake County Sheriff's Department and Howe Security Company and are pleased with both organizations services.Fire services are provided by Libertyville and Riverwoods Fire Departments and both do a fine job.Where, if anywhere, could the current budget be trimmed, and conversely, are there areas the budget does not give enough money to?We have very effective budgeting and financial reporting processes. Costs are continually being reviewed to identify and implement cost savings.What is one good idea you have to better the community that no one is talking about yet?Put our open lands in conservation easements to protect against commercial development.What other issues, if any, are important to you as a candidate for this office?Transparency in all of our government actions. It is always my goal to have sunlight on the process.Please name one current leader who most inspires you.Prime Minister Netanyahu of Israel as the only true democracy in the Mideast he must protect his country for enemies on all sides.What is the biggest lesson you learned at home growing up?Be honest and admit your mistakes.If life gave you one do-over, what would you spend it on?I stayed in several jobs too long. I should have looked for a more challenging, more rewarding opportunity sooner.What was your favorite subject in school and how did it help you in later life?Physics. I majored in Physics at Knox College and went to work for IBM on graduation giving me a great career.If you could give your children only one piece of advice, what would it be?Regardless of the circumstances, do your very best and work hard. Find a job/career/company you really enjoy.
