Schaumburg mayor cited for leaving crash scene
Schaumburg police ticketed Village President Al Larson for leaving the scene of a property damage collision and improper lane use after his car struck another vehicle on Schaumburg Road, authorities acknowledged Sunday. Larson, 78, one of the longest-serving mayors in Chicago's suburbs, said he drove to the nearby Schaumburg post office parking lot after the crash and pulled over to wait for the other driver. When the other car didn't appear after five minutes, Larson said, he went home to call police. Full story.
Police take polar plunge for Special Olympics
More than 300 Lake County-area police officers and residents immersed themselves in the chilly waters of Fox Lake on Sunday to support Special Olympians during the annual Fox Lake Polar Plunge at Lakefront Park. Presented by the Law Enforcement Torch Run and GEICO, the event raises money to help the athletes who compete in Special Olympics Illinois. Full story.

St. Edward celebrates 3rd-place finish
It may not have been the hardware the players had in mind when they set out for downstate Normal three days earlier, but the St. Edward High School girls basketball team and its supporters still had plenty to celebrate when they returned to their Elgin campus Sunday with a third-place trophy in tow. After suffering a heartbreaking 3-point loss to Bloomington Central Catholic in Friday's 2A state semifinals, the Green Wave rallied on Saturday to beat Central Southeastern of Camp Point 47-42 in the third-place game.
