Wanted Lake County father, son captured

Members of the Lake County Sheriff's Warrants Team and U.S. Marshals Service - Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force last week apprehended a wanted father and son who had avoided capture since the summer of 2016, authorities said Monday.

Jayrell D. Gaines, 25, of the 2100 block of Lorraine Ave, Waukegan, had an active $200,000 arrest warrant for unlawful possession of a controlled substance out of Waukegan, authorities said. He was located Friday at a home in the 1900 block of Elizabeth Avenue in North Chicago.

At the time, he was found with more than 10 grams of crack cocaine, for which he is facing additional charges, according to Lake County Sheriff's police. He's being held at the Lake County jail on $500,000 bail, with a court appearance scheduled for Friday.

His father, Julius D. Gaines, 48, no address available, was captured at a motel Thursday on a $250,000 arrest warrant for armed violence, manufacturing/delivery of cocaine, felon in possession of a firearm, and unlawful possession of a controlled substance, sheriff's police said. He also is in custody at the county jail, with a scheduled court appearance Friday.
