Oakton to unveil new art for museum

Oakton Community College's Koehnline Museum of Art will display more than 50 new acquisitions starting Thursday.

It is part of the exhibition "Gems from the Koehnline: New Acquisitions," at the college's Des Plaines campus, 1600 E. Golf Road. The free display runs through Thursday, March 23. The public is invited to an opening night reception from 5 to 8 p.m.

This exhibit showcases distinguished 20th-century masters, including abstract expressionists Joseph Meert and Ezio Martinelli. The display also includes a rare 1926 portrait by Chicago artist Gregory Orloff and prints by Chicago artist John Himmelfarb.

"Thanks to the generosity of private donors, the art collection at the Koehnline Museum of Art has dramatically expanded over recent years," said Nathan Harapz, museum's manager and curator.

Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. For information, call (847) 635-2633 or visit www.oakton.edu/museum.
