Gurnee hosting volunteer fair Feb. 28

The Village of Gurnee will be hosting a volunteer fair from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, in the Gurnee Police Department Community Room, 100 N. O'Plaine Road.

The event will be an opportunity for nonprofit organizations, volunteer groups, and clubs serving Lake County to connect with potential volunteers.

Gurnee Mayor Kristina Kovarik recognized the need for a volunteer fair after hearing from residents wanting to become more involved in the community, and from organizations struggling to find volunteers.

"There appears to be a disconnect between the wonderful organizations serving our community and the residents looking for ways they could help others," she said Tuesday in an announcement of the fair.

There is no registration required. Interested volunteers are encouraged to attend and learn more about organizations serving Lake County, with no obligation to join. The fair is open to all ages.

The volunteer fair will include 20 confirmed organizations looking for volunteers. They represent a wide variety of causes and social services in the Gurnee community. For a complete list of participating organizations and an event flyer, visit www.gurnee.il.us/volunteerfair2017.
