Friends of Lake Villa District Library donate to the Midwest Veterans Closet

The Friends of Lake Villa District Library recently presented a $1,000 donation to the Midwest Veterans Closet in North Chicago. The gift came from the proceeds the Friends' "Thank-a-Vet" book sale which is held annually in November.

The Midwest Veterans Closet is a drop-in center for veterans and their families. Each month it provides clothing, food, household items, computer training, job placement and transportation services to more than 400 veterans. Staffed by volunteers and fully funded by donations, The Midwest Veterans Closet accepts monetary donations as well as nonperishable food items, clothing, even automobiles; anything to positively impact the lives of local veterans. While the Friends of LVDL promote library awareness and provide funding for special library collections and equipment through their used book sales, supporting local and regional nonprofit organizations is a mainstay of their mission.

"We feel it's vital to support the good work going on in our community," Friends President Ellen Wing said. "The Midwest Veterans Closet is doing wonderful work and we are proud to support their efforts."
