Pedestrian killed by vehicle along Route 59 in Warrenville

An adult pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle Tuesday night along Route 59 in Warrenville has died, authorities said Wednesday.

The pedestrian, who wasn't identified by Warrenville police, died after being taken to an area hospital.

The crash occurred about 6:23 p.m. when the pedestrian was crossing the northbound lanes of Route 59 from west to east - in the area of the crosswalk - at Meadow Lane and against a red light, police said.

A vehicle traveling north on Route 59 was going through the intersection on a green light when it struck the pedestrian. Police said all traffic lights were reported to be fully functioning and operational at the time.

Warrenville police investigating the crash received assistance from the DuPage County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities said no citation has been issued against the driver; the investigation is ongoing.
