Oakton challenging men to 'walk a mile in her shoes'
Oakton Community College is inviting residents to join students and employees as they unite to "walk a mile in her shoes" on Valentine's Day.
Male volunteers will attempt to walk in high-heel shoes on Student Street at the Des Plaines campus, 1600 E. Golf Road, at 11 a.m. Tuesday. The event raises money and awareness for challenges women faces, according to a news release.
A "flash mob" dance begins at 1 p.m. in the main lobbies at the college's campuses in Des Plaines and Skokie.
The activities are part of "One Billion Rising," a day of action organized to generate attention for the fight to stop violence against women and girls.
