Fox Lake man who threatened cop could lose probation

A Fox Lake man who pleaded guilty to charges of threatening to shoot a police officer could have his probation revoked for failing to complete several court requirements and because of new theft charges filed against him, authorities said Thursday.

Anthony M. Huf, 32, pleaded guilty in November to a misdemeanor count of threatening a public official and was sentenced to 24 months of probation, 100 hours of community service, counseling for domestic abuse and a $1,900 fine, authorities said.

However, prosecutors ordered Huf to return to court Thursday after he failed to meet those requirements, said Cynthia Vargas, spokeswoman for the Lake County state's attorney's office.

Huf also did not show up to court as ordered, Vargas said. The absence resulted in a $20,000 arrest warrant being issued.

The new warrant was on top of a $75,000 warrant issued after Huf was charged in January with two felony counts of theft of more than $500 but less than $10,000 for a burglary in Libertyville, Vargas said.

If found guilty of the charges, he could be sentenced up to five years in prison, Vargas said.

The original charges against Huf stemmed from a burglary reported on the 100 block of Breezy Point Lane about 7:30 p.m. Sept. 29. An officer was at the house when the woman who called police received a telephone call from a man claiming he was going to shoot the officer, authorities said.

When a noise similar to a gunshot was heard from outside, the officer called for help, police said.

The subdivision near Breezy Point Lane was blocked off for nearly three hours while police searched for Huf. He was taken into custody about 10 p.m. near Forest and Arthur avenues. He did not have a gun in his possession when he was arrested, authorities said.

Huf was charged with burglary, theft under $300, electronic telephone harassment, aggravated assault and disorderly conduct. Those charges were dropped in exchange for the plea deal reached in November, authorities said.
