New Des Plaines police officers, firefighter sworn in

Des Plaines Mayor Matt Bogusz swore in eight police officers and one new firefighter at a city council meeting last week.

The hiring brings the police and fire departments to full staffing levels, officials said.

The ceremony marked the largest single addition to the police department since 1972, Police Chief Bill Kushner said. Four officers are military veterans, two previously worked for other police departments and two have family members who've served in law enforcement, Kushner said.

The new officers are Gabriel Hallas, Dale Jeon, Myles Klein, Ryne Korbus, Brian Maresco, Daniel Murphy, Jeff Von Moser and Nicholas Zefeldt.

The fire department hired David Leno, who started attending the nine-week fire academy last week.

"David comes from a long line of firefighters in the Chicago Fire Department, so I know they're as excited to have him on the job as are we," Fire Chief Alan Wax said. "We welcome this family to our family."
