Mount Prospect police search for carjacking suspect

Mount Prospect police are searching for a man suspected in a carjacking at an apartment complex parking lot early Friday.

The owner of a Chevrolet Tahoe, parked in the lot on the 2200 block of South Lexington Drive, had just gotten into the truck when the man knocked on the driver's side window and pointed a silver handgun at the victim about 5 a.m., police said.

The man ordered the victim out of the car at gunpoint and took his wallet and wedding ring, police said. The man also demanded the victim's cellphone, police said.

The victim, who was not injured, managed to push the suspect, run away from the scene and call 911, police said.

The suspect drove the Chevrolet south on Lexington Drive toward Oakton Street.

The suspect was described as 6-foot-5-inches tall. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, and some type of black mask or cloth that covered his face. The 2011 black Tahoe's license plate reads Q371211, police said.

The offender should be considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached, police said.
