Methodists donate 180 winter caps, scarves and gloves to Aurora schools

Fourth Street United Methodist Church in Aurora recently donated 180 winter caps, scarves and gloves to Aurora schools.

Volunteers delivered gear to Bardwell, Dieterich and Rollins elementary schools in East Aurora Unit District 131 and Schneider Elementary School, North Aurora, in West Aurora Unit District 129.

In an annual Knitten Tree project under way since Thanksgiving, Fourth Street UMC members attached winter gear to a metal yule tree stationed in the church sanctuary.

The church's missions committee sponsors the effort.

Donations included mittens and scarves made by Yarnies knitting club, 10 residents at Fox Knoll retirement center in Aurora who knit in their apartments and at a weekly group meeting.

A church spokesman said new and handmade donations will be accepted at the church, 551 S. Fourth St. in Aurora.
