Schaumburg bans 'alcohol smoking,' powder

Schaumburg trustees have approved the banning of alcohol inhalation devices - sometimes called alcohol without liquid machines - as well as powdered alcohol, referred to as Palcohol.

The new law - following in the footsteps of those in Naperville, Pingree Grove and River Forest - outlaws both the sale and possession of such materials.

In Schaumburg, violators will have the option of paying a $250 fine if they don't want to contest the charge, or requesting a local adjudication hearing at which the fine could either be dropped or rise as high as $1,500.

Any illegal machine or powder will be confiscated.

No protests of the new law were made to the village either before or at the meeting at which the vote occurred.
